Inspiring Change Through Art

For over 75 years, the world has been witnessing horrific violence unfolding in Palestine which has significantly accelerated and intensified over the past year. In the face of governments’ failure to act, a consistent global outcry for justice remains. It maintains the demand for the safety & dignity of the Palestinian people, their land, and their right to self-sovereignty. That art and creative disobedience have played a central role in speaking truth to power is a testimony to arts’ capacity to hold up a mirror to our world.

Capturing these initiatives so that we never forget, Shubbak introduces An Artist’s Manual Against Apartheid (AAMAA): an open-source, digital resource created to empower artists, cultural workers and the general public with tools and platforms to resist injustice through cultural means and to foster transformative change.

AAMAA is more than a resource; it is a comprehensive technical and creative toolkit designed for cultural resistance and creative disobedience. Through a mix of practical guidance and deeply reflective exercises, AAMAA hopes to equip the public with tools & references to confront oppressive systems and reimagine the irresistible within a capitalist context. This initiative embodies the belief that art can drive powerful change—whether on a personal level or across the political landscape.

A Collaborative Effort for Change

AAMAA emerged from an open call by Shubbak in early 2024, shaped with the guidance of advisory board members Aimee Chaalan, Ahmed Masoud, and Nesreen Hussein. Through this process, we commissioned the artistic duo chamæleon, Farah Chamma and LIEV, to bring the vision to life, reflecting a deep commitment to using art as a tool for resistance, education, and hope.

Conceived and commissioned by Shubbak with production expertise from Tuyet Van Huynh, AAMAA was made possible through partnerships with Amnesty International UK, Makan, PalArts, the Arab British Centre, and Counterpoint Arts. Together, we are dedicated to ensuring it reaches and resonates with a global audience.
